Human Rights awareness programme for army
The Human Rights Commission of Sri Lanka (HRCSL) is to organise a human rights awareness programme for the higher ranking army officers in the Northern Province, the Human Rights Commissioner Dr. Prathibha Mahanamahewa said yesterday.
The commissioner said according to the Lessons Learnt and Reconciliation Commission (LLRC) recommendations the HRCSL was assigned to conduct education programs for children, armed forces and several civil organisations. Dr. Mahanamahewa told Daily Mirror that the Com- mission would launch a three day workshop for the Army Commissioned Officers on September 14 in Mullaitivu, Kilinochchi and Vavuniya districts.
“Under this programme, the Commissioned Officers attached to the 56 , 57 and 58 Divisions of Sri Lanka Army would mainly be educated on safeguarding civilians’ rights in the process of reconciliation.
