NTUC supports FUTA

- G.A.D. Sirimal Boralesgamuwa

Reading the above-titled news item and the picture of a demonstration by the JVP-affiliated National Trade Unions, in your issue of 29th Aug., it appears the protest of the FUTA has now spilled over to other areas.

This is mainly due to the two ministers concerned having adopted an inflexible, uncompromising attitude. However, it is strange, the Chancellors of the respective Universities, have not taken any steps to collectively represent their matters to the government, together with the university dons. This would have softened the stand of the university lecturers and made matters easy for the government.

Merely having an academic degree does not qualify a person to a high post, where he/she is a misfit. Although President Mahinda Rajapaksa has train-loads of advisors and consultants, their contributions seem to be nil, as all problems are now referred to President Mahinda Rajapaksa or brought to the notice of the judiciary. The message is clear and loud -Get rid of dead wood for efficient governance.
