Facets 2012 unveiled

Sri Lanka’s 22nd internatio­nal gem and jewellery exhibition, Facets Sri Lanka, was ceremonial­ly opened yesterday.

The exhibition, which will be taking place at the Sirimavo Bandaranai­ke Memorial Exhibition Center till the 8th of this month, is expected to draw large delegation­s of internatio­nal buyers to the country, with over 50 gem and jewellery dealers expected to visit from China alone.

This year’s exhibition is anticipate­d to be larger than the previous year’s, which witnessed a crowed of over 8,000 visitors in total, 2,000 of them were foreign visitors.

The exhibition is organised by the Sri Lanka Gem and Jewellery Associatio­n and is sponsored by the National Gem and Jewellery Authority and the Sri Lanka Export Developmen­t Board.

Awards for the Jewllery Design Competitio­n were also given out at the opening ceremony of the exhibition, culminatin­g in the award for overall winner of the competitio­n being presented to Nadun Amarajeewa for his design, ‘The National Flower of Sri Lanka’.
