Facets 2012 unveiled
Sri Lanka’s 22nd international gem and jewellery exhibition, Facets Sri Lanka, was ceremonially opened yesterday.
The exhibition, which will be taking place at the Sirimavo Bandaranaike Memorial Exhibition Center till the 8th of this month, is expected to draw large delegations of international buyers to the country, with over 50 gem and jewellery dealers expected to visit from China alone.
This year’s exhibition is anticipated to be larger than the previous year’s, which witnessed a crowed of over 8,000 visitors in total, 2,000 of them were foreign visitors.
The exhibition is organised by the Sri Lanka Gem and Jewellery Association and is sponsored by the National Gem and Jewellery Authority and the Sri Lanka Export Development Board.
Awards for the Jewllery Design Competition were also given out at the opening ceremony of the exhibition, culminating in the award for overall winner of the competition being presented to Nadun Amarajeewa for his design, ‘The National Flower of Sri Lanka’.
