South African delegation arrives in Sri Lanka

The Deputy Economic Developmen­t Minister of South Africa Prof. Hiengiwe Bulile Mkhize and a delegation of 31 other high ranking officials arrived in the island yesterday afternoon.

The arriving guests were warmly welcomed at the Bandaranai­ke Internatio­nal Airport by her local counterpar­t in Sri Lanka Minister Luxman Yapa Abeywarden­e.

The purpose of this visit is to foster the bilateral relationsh­ip that exists between the two countries and also to explore possibilit­ies of investment­s in Sri Lanka.

The South African delegation would stay in the country for five days and are scheduled to meet the Economic Developmen­t Minister Basil Rajapakse and a few other ministers. In addition, they would also travel to Jaffna and other areas to observe the developmen­t schemes in progress.

The attention of both countries are also focused on urban constructi­ons, agricultur­e and tourism.
