OLYMPIANS STEAL THE SHOW AT THE MEN OF THE YEAR AWARDS AS GB ATHLETES WIN BEST TEAM
Over the years, red carpets are often dominated by reality stars and glamour models. But at the GQ Men Of The Year Awards in London on Tuesday, it was time for some truly inspirational stars to shine.
A host of Team GB Olympians, including Mo Farah, Victoria Pendleton, Sir Chris Hoy and Bradley Wiggins added to their gold medals with the Team Of The Year Award. Paralympian Ellie Simmonds managed to sneak out of the athletics village for the evening to join her contemporaries to accept the award.
It was quite a change to see the athletes out of their lycra in designer clothes for the night, with golden girl Victoria looking glamorous in a Stella McCartney dress with sheer panels.
Of course, Stella also designed Team GB’s kit for the Olympics and Paralympics. The designer herself also attended, arriving on the arm of husband Alasdhair Willis.
Road race cyclist Bradley, 32, kept to his mod style in a pale grey trouser suit, while his wife Catherine looked very patriotic in her Union Jack dress. Catherine, Bradley’s wife of eight years, was wearing a Vivienne Westwood Gold Label Union Jack Tie-Dress.
Sir Chris also opted for a grey suit as he arrived with his lawyer wife Sarra Kemp, who looked sleek in a black gown.
New dad Mo, whose wife Tania gave birth to twin girls Aisha and Amani on August 25, arrived solo to present Robbie Williams with the Icon Award.
The two men delighted partygoers as they performed the runner’s famous Mo-bot.
