Let’s re-build

“Today is a sunny day. It’s such a relief after the rainy wet days,”commented Marnie.

“”We shouldn’t grumble. Generally, the sun shines after a maximum of three days of rain!”said Tilak.

“You are right. We enjoy good weather in Sri Lanka with no extremes where people die of excessive heat or cold!”chimed in Heather.

“I think that we Sri Lankans are a nation of grumblers. We have such a beautiful country and so many natural resources like rivers and waterfalls!”observed Tilak.

“I know. I think the problem is the way we are brought up. Most Sri Lankans are spoilt at home and expect life to be a bed of roses. Then when difficulties come in their way, they grumble!”said Heather.

“Yes, contrary to the fairy tale, life is very difficult and we must accept this fact. If only we could train children and teenagers to accept the difficulty of life, perhaps we will have a generation of contented adults,”said Tilak.

“First of all, we need to recognize that we are spoilt usually by the mother or the father. Let’s be honest. Did you have your own way at home?”asked Heather.

“To tell you the truth, I was the apple of my father’s eye. He gave me whatever I wanted and that is why I am used to having things my way,”confessed Marnie.

“And I suppose that you in turn spoilt your own children, following your father’s example,”said Tilak.

“Frankly, yes. You see, most Sri Lankan couples have children early before they have cemented their marital relationship. They then proceed to transfer all their love and hopes onto the children. Can you find a Sri Lankan(or should I say Asian) couple who put the marriage first and the children second?”said Heather.
