The police had advised all the relevant parties and candidates to prevent untoward incidents and advise their supporters not to engage in violating the prevailing election laws especially in the post elections period. Each police station has a separate elections monitoring desk under a police officer and they would take necessary action when they get a complaint. Areas were identified as ‘hot spots’, where violation of election laws were reported many times and more policemen with the assistance of the three armed forces had been recruited to such areas. Security personnel numbering 20,000 from the police, the three armed forces and the Special Task Force (STF) assigned for the election would ensure security in the post elections period as well, the police said.
