According to police the total value of the assets belonging to the drug kingpin ‘Wele Suda’ is Rs.185 million but investigations are underway to probe for many of his undeclared assets.

‘Wele Suda’ is currently residing abroad. His wife along with his cousin sister were arrested six months ago at the Bandaranaike International Airport (BIA) when they attempted to enter the country by using forged passports.

The assets that were frozen under the provisions of Section Seven of the Prevention of Money Laundering Act recently included five luxury houses situated in Nedimala, Wijerama Road in Colombo and in Rajagiriya. His vehicles included a Toyota Allion, a Land Rover Defender, a BMW car, a Toyota Land Cruiser Prado and a Range Rover. Gold weighing nearly four kilogrammes possessed by his family was also frozen under the provisions of Section Seven of the Prevention of Money Laundering Act. It was also found that he and his wife had deposited money in a number of banks amounting to a staggering Rs.21 million. On April 25 this year his luxury apartment in the 2000 Plaza Complex in Sri Jayewardenapura was raided by the police where they found one of the main drug trafficking centres in the country.

In one of the biggest raids in recent history on heroin trafficking, police arrested three women and two men.

It was revealed that the modus operandi was by the fugitive ‘Wele Suda’ from overseas. The apartment situated on the tenth floor was found to be a hub for packing and distribution of heroin. Police also arrested two men aged 26 and 32 during the raid together with a 37-year-old driver who was said to have been one of the main traffickers.
