Nanda Malini on Shwetha Rathriya Final

-

Visharada Nanda Malini’s ‘Shwetha Rathriya’ solo musical concert is coming to an end on Friday, September 14.The award-winning songstress shared her views with Impulse about the success story of this crowd-pulling show. “My first musical concert‘Sravana Aradhana’ started in 1973 with Pandith W. D.Amaradeva who could not continue with it for long. Then I did it all by myself and it included songs that were popular then. After some time, it became somewhat bored and I stopped it.Thereafter I did not take part in open air concerts for about eight years. Then came Sathyaye Geethaya in 1981.All the songs that came in it were penned by Prof. Sunil Ariyaratne. We held more than 500 shows islandwide. In 1988 I stopped that and started Pawana which also became a hit. That was stopped 23 years ago. Shwetha Rathriya came after that long gap.

“Shwetha Rathriya which was made possible due to efforts by Sirasa FM Radio Head S. M. Marikkar started on September 14, 2010 with the promise of wrapping it up on September 14, 2012 with 25 shows during that period. The success of Shwetha Rathriya is unbelievable. I am told that the final show coming up this Friday will be made into a DVD and that will probably leave permanent memories of Shwetha Rathriya,” Visharada Nanda Malini told Impulse.

“As I told you last week, an additional show will be held on Thursday to please those who had not got tickets for the 14th finale. The tickets for the September 14th show had been sold within one hour and tickets for the 13th had been sold within 20 minutes. This proves the thirst our people have for good music. I am extremely grateful to all who have been part of this memorable show, ”she said.
