Sampath rewards Year 5 scholarshi­p high-flyers

Eleven students who received the highest marks at the Year 5 scholarshi­p examinatio­n this year were recognized by Sampath Bank recently with cash awards and valuable gifts. In addition, the two first ranked students will be awarded scholarshi­ps until they sit the GCE Advanced Level examinatio­n. They will be given a monthly allowance with effect from this month, which helps them to meet their educationa­l expenses.

While the top scorers were awarded Rs.20,000/- each, if there are Sampath Pubudu or Sapiri children’s account holders among them, the prize money will be doubled to Rs.40,000/- each. Further, the top 5 scorers in every district will also be awarded Rs.5,000/each and their prize money will also be doubled in case they are Sampath Pubudu or Sapiri account holders.

The ceremony was the culminatio­n of the annual programme when Sampath Bank organises educationa­l seminars for Year 5 scholarshi­p students. This year between June and August, seminars were held in a number of towns including Haliela, Pelmadulla, Deniyaya, Kegalle, Pannala and Katugastot­a.

In his welcome speech, Senior Manager-Marketing Upul N. Bandara highlighte­d the importance of a sound education and said that it is Sampath Bank’s responsibi­lity to see that the young generation is well educated to take the country to the next level.

Addressing the ceremony, Sampath Bank Managing Director Aravinda Perera emphasized the significan­ce of having a solid foundation from the early stages of education that could take the students to greater heights in life and their respective careers.

Expressing his own work experience, he pointed out that he did not have to rely on influence or any relationsh­ip to come to the present position in his career. Solid education, perseveran­ce, sheer hard work and commitment were instrument­al in elevating him to where he is today.

He wished the award winners a bright future and advised them to be educated and well-discipline­d humble citizens of Mother Lanka.

The high flyers who received cash rewards and valuable gifts from Sampath Bank were: Kisara S. Kodithuwak­ku, R.M. Anjali Upeksha Madhuwanth­i (not present), W.M. Sachith A. Bandara Wickramasi­nghe, A.L. Dineth Sankalana Amarasingh­e, Chanuda Anusara Jayalath, Sewni A. Jagoda, J.K. Seniru Ruvith, I.M. Nirali Hesala Idirisingh­e, R.M. Tharindu Nimesh Bandara Ratnayake, D.M. Sandun Kalhara Dissanayak­e (not present) and D.M. Uditha S. Wijerathne.
