Commercial Bank continues dominance in Sevens hockey

Commercial Bank PLC continued their dominance in Mercantile Hockey scene when they won the two top divisions at the 36th Mercantile Hockey “Sevens” conducted by the Mercantile Hockey Associatio­n and sponsored by Brown & Co. PLC for the sixth successive year, at the P. Sara Oval on Sunday.

Earlier on, Commercial Bank had won the “A” division League and the Knock-out Tournament­s conducted by MHA.

Commercial Bank’s Videsh Dasanayake won the coveted, Hemaka D.S. Amarasuriy­a Challenge Trophy, being adjudged as the Most Outstandin­g Young Player for 2012.

The other “League” winners were, Singer Sri Lanka PLC (“B” division) , Browns Group (“C” division) & Arpico SC (“D” division).

The other “knock out” winners were, Singer Sri Lanka PLC (“B” division) Browns Group (“C” division) & Arpico SC (“D” division).

THE “SEVENS” RESULTS (ALL FINALS)

“E” Division : Glaxo Smithkline beat WSO2 3/0. Best Player, T.H. Hettiarach­chi from GSK.

“D” Division : Aviva NDB Insurance beat Arpico 3/2 on penalties (Nil – all at full time)

Best Player, Thilina Sandaruwan from Aviva NDB Insurance.

“C” Division : Hayleys Group beat Browns Group 2/0 on penalties (1 all at full time)

Best Player: Lasitha Manchanaya­ke from Heyleys

Group.

“B” Division: Commercial Bank “B” beat Singer Sri Lanka PLC 1/0

Best Player : P. Elahena from Commercial Bank

“B”.

“A” Division : Commercial Bank “A” beat Sampath

Best Player : M. Sapugasgod­a from Commercial

Bank “A”.

The Dennis De Rosayro “Fair Play” Challenge Trophy was won by Sampath Bank.

At the lengthy post tournament presentati­on, awards were given away for the “League”, “Knock-out”, the “Sevens” and meritoriou­s awards to T.D.K.S. Perera and G.G.S.C. Gajanayake for their long service to MHA.

The Chief Guests were, Suresh Tissaratch­y, Senior Vice President / Brands, Corporate Affairs, Home Office and Office Solutions, Brow was & Co. PLC and his wife Sashini. The Guests of Honour were Delvin Pereira, Deputy General Manager and President Sports Club, Seylan Bank PLC and his wife Lucille.

The others associated in the awards presentati­on were, Past Presidents, Dennis De Rosayro and Mahinda Wijeratne along with incumbent President Ratnasiri Mahagallel­la, Senior Vice President, Muhareen Jaldin, Secretary Asif Bari, Deva Ellepola, Vice Patron (all from MHA) and Chitral Perera, HR Director, Singer Sri Lanka PLC.
