Theodore won everyone’s affection

-

Theodore Hettiarachchi of Negombo dearly known as Tudor among his friends, had won the love and affection of his neighbours, friends and relatives throughout his life up to the time of his passing away.

He had served as the sexton of the church for over 25 years, performing his duties to perfection. As counselor at his parish church, he gave right counsel to each and every one who sought solace from him.

He enjoyed doing missionary work and was a community leader for the Catholic Apostolate of Renewal (Kithu Dana Pubuduwa), at the Croos Convent, Negombo. He conducted prayer meetings and spread the Word of God to the devotees who came from various areas.

Theodore’s work as a Justice of Peace and a member of Negombo’s Mediation Board helped him prove his worth as a ‘problem solver’ and a ‘relief provider’ because of his ability to provide solutions to many community grievances.

His characteristic of speaking his mind frankly and clearly was prominent among his many good qualities.

Theodore served as the Secretary of the Samastha Lanka Madel Himiyange Sangamaya for a number of years dedicating himself to earn enough recognition for this important association connected to a lot of people’s livelihoods.

In God’s sight, Theodore retired. He was a shepherd until God called him home.

Fortunately, the late Theodore Hettiarachchi has left with us his wife who is a retired teacher as well as a son and daughter - a senior manager at the Commercial Bank, Colombo and a medical doctor at Borella Medical Research Institute respectively who are inspired to serve the society, and take forward the noble legacy Theodore had left off. May he rest in peace!
