PREPARE TO BE STOMPED

- BY REIHAN STEPHEN

Nightlife in Colombo has been booming ever since the war ended. But just when you thought Colombo had seen the best of the best, the party scene is about to explode when the “STOMP”- an electronic dance music festival, comes to town.

Speaking to Daily Mirror Life,Vishal Shetty the festival director says, “Wizcraft is a company that has done many events on a grand scale in India -for example Michael Jackson, Katty Perry and Lady Gaga concerts and this is our first step into the electronic music scene”

Vishal goes on to add that the planning of this event did not happen over a short period. They began by studying the Sri Lankan market over the last one and a half years.Vishal says “the festival’s debut is made in Sri Lanka for Sri Lanka.” Although he was not planning to release the names of the artistes who will be performing, he divulged a few names to DM Life. When Sri Lanka throws a party, you have to expect the best of the best and therefore headlining the festival would be “Above and Beyond”- the trio that needs no introduction when it comes to entertainment.

Also being featured at the festival would be J-tech, Dj Dinka and many more international sensations. However, instead of having only international acts in the spotlight, the STOMP festival will also give locals entertaining the crowds-Tim Claessen, Shyam and Asvajit to name a few. DJ Eve Carey has been a DJ for a career spanning 15 years and is regularly on tour and is considered to be one of the top female DJs in the world.

At the age of 17 she landed a job at a recording studio. Speaking to DM Life, DJ Eve says that she is super excited to be in Sri Lanka for the first time and finds it an amazing place to be in. Speaking on entering an industry that is dominated by males, she says,“it is extremely hard to be a good DJ, but it is the same case in almost every profession- when you’re a female and entering an industry such as what I’m in it is extremely hard to enter it and earn respect.”

DJ Eve has one milestone that stands out among many others, along with her friend Miss Behavin ,who calls themselves Charly’z Angelz. They were the first international DJs to play in Syria!

Speaking about her involvement at the STOMP festival she says she is looking forward to seeing "a good, energetic and crazy crowd."
