INDIA ASSURES SRI LANKA OF CONTINUING DIALOGUE

Priests meet Indian HC regarding nuclear plant

India has assured Sri Lanka that it would continue its dialogue with the Sri Lankan politician­s and civil society on the Kudankulam nuclear plant.

Commission­er in Sri Lanka, had given this assurance on behalf of the Indian government when a delegation from several opposition political parties, civil society leaders and religious leaders met him for a discussion on the proposed plant. Those who were in the Sri Lankan delegation were Democratic People’s Front (DPF) leader Mano Ganesan, United Socialist Party (USP) leader Siritunga Jayasooriy­a, journalist Kusal Perera, DPF assistant general secretary S. Kuhavarada­n, joint secretary of the FTZ trade unions Anton Marcus and Mannar vicar general Jeyabalan Croos (who represente­d Mannar Bishop Rayappu Joseph).

Mr. Kantha had promised to give additional details of the waste disposal methods and continue the dialogue with the Sri Lankan politician­s and civil society leaders on the subject.

A memorandum addressed to Indian Prime Minister Manmohan Singh had been sent to the high commission­er earlier.

Speaking to the media on the discussion­s, DPF leader Mano Ganesan said the delegation had made particular queries on three issues concerning Sri Lanka.
