Resignatio­n not valid: SF

Democratic National Alliance (DNA) MPs Tiran Alles and Arjuna Ranatunga are to take a stand on the budget independen­t of DNA today.

They had not received any letter from Former Army Commander and DNA leader Sarath Fonseka

Mr. Alles told Daily Mirror that they would decide on their stand with regard to the budget today. “We have not discussed yet and we will do so today and take a stand,” he said

A DNA MP who was critical of the Former Army Commander said he should have sent the letters to them before releasing them to the media. “This shows the standard of Fonseka,” he added.

Mr. Ranatunga when contacted by the Daily Mirror confirmed that he too had not received any letter. Mr. Ranatunga said they would remain with the DNA. He said they had only resigned from the Democratic Party.

Asked whether he had met President Mahinda Rajapaksa during the last few days MP Ranatunga said he had not. He said he was away from Colombo during the past few days. Meanwhile, Fonseka had officially informed DNA MPs Arjuna Ranatunga and Tiran Alles that their resignatio­n from the Democratic Party was not valid as such a party had not been registered yet.
