Obama’s starpower

There are no prizes for guessing that Clint Eastwood probably punched an ‘invisible’ Obama in anger after the US election results were announced. And there are also no prizes for guessing that few members from the American film fraternity would have shared the 81-year-old filmmaker’s grief after Mitt Romney’s loss. That’s because Hollywood in enamoured of Obama. Let’s face it: it’s no surprise that the left-leaning hippies, pro-abortion activists and gay rights lobbyists who live the good life in LA, were not exactly going to be wooed by a party whose members have a ten

dency to attribute everything — from rape pregnancies to US invasion in Afghanistan — to God’s will.

But it’s not an aversion to Republican ideology that has pushed the fraternity of American celebrities towards the Democratic alternative; they, in fact, seem to love Obama. The American president, who has now been elected for another term in office, has an overzealous following among American artistes and musicians. Rarely in history has an American leader drawn not just public by the hordes, but also a multitude of celebrities with his magnetism. Ranging from Sarah Jessica Parker to Miley Cyrus, George Clooney to Angelina Jolie — there are many Hollywood A-listers who have openly endorsed Obama. Figures for the US economy might not look so good at the moment, but Obama’s supporters surely do.

In fact, many celebrities, like George Clooney, Sarah Jessica Parker, Jay-Z and Beyonce, organised star-studded fundraisers for the President’s campaigning efforts. And just after Obama was re-elected as the US President, celebrities were quick to send out a barrage of tweets congratulating him.

But why are the stars perpetually struck by Obamalove? Perhaps, it’s because the leader’s unassuming personality and unconventional childhood strikes a chord with them. And since many of them also come from racially diverse and unconventional backgrounds, they seem to relate well with the 44th President. So it won’t be a surprise if he ends up getting his name engraved in the Hollywood Walk of Fame one day!
