DSS and Medabedda BV emerge champions

DSS defeated defending champions Prince of Wales in the final by 6 goals to five

D.S.Senanayake College Colombo and Medabedda Balika Vidyalaya emerged champions in the boys and girls categories at the Second Under 19 All Island Schools Handball Championsh­ip concluded at St John’s College ground in Panadura.

DSS defeated defending champions Prince of Wales in the final by 6 goals to five while Medabedda BV Galewela from the Matale District overcame their home town rivals St. Anthony’s BV by seven goals to four in the final.

Meanwhile Nalanda College Colombo clinched two titles when they bagged the Plate and the Bowl trophies. In the Plate championsh­ip Nalanda ‘B’ overcame Prince of Wales ‘B’ by five goals to three while Nalanda ‘A’ defeated Science College Mt Lavinia by 12 goals to nine in the Bowl championsh­ip.

In the girl’s category Buddhists Ladies ‘B’ clinched the Plate title with a five goals to three win over Devi Balika ‘B’ while Good Shepard Convent ‘C’ emerged the Bowl champion with three goals to one win over Devi Balika ‘A’.

The Second All Island Schools Handball Championsh­ip conducted by the Sri Lanka Schools Handball Associatio­n and sponsored by Neo Homes (Pvt) Ltd. saw 22 teams in the boys section and 12 teams in the girls category around the island taking part.
