-

Closeup, the oral care brand for the youth, from Unilever, took pride in sponsoring the ninth Annual Scientific Sessions, organised by the Sri Lanka Academy of Aesthetic and Cosmetic Dentistry (SLAACD) held recently in Colombo.

With the focus of the event being on aesthetic dentistry, over hundred cosmetic and aesthetic dentists participated at the two-day event, which featured eminent personalities such as Dr. P.D. Joshi, Consultant Endodontist, India, Dr. Paresh Kale, Consultant Prosthodontist, India, Dr. Chandra Herath, Consultant in Restorative Dentistry and Senior Lecturer, Faculty of Dental Sciences, Peradeniya and Dr. Ranjith Weerasinghe, who has a special interest in Endodontics.

While the event this year was themed ‘Aesthetics - blends with the trend’, participants were given the opportunity to learn through lectures, demonstrations, interactive discussions and hands-on experiments. Some of the topics of discussion were what steps and protocols that should be followed to do a complete makeover of a patient’s mouth in a restorative/ prosthetic point of view, internal methods of bleaching, mouth rehabilitation, root fractures, tooth whitening and oral wellbeing. The emphasis on the lecture presented by Dr. Arunachalam showed participants how to deliver long lasting, esthetic and functional restorations from the simple to the most challenging cases, while achieving excellent results.

In a statement issued by the Chief Guest for the event, Palitha Fernando, Attorney General of Sri Lanka noted, “I am aware that the Annual Scientific Sessions is one of the most important events on the annual calendar of the school. It presents the members with a unique opportunity of meeting and sharing their experiences and common concerns pertaining to the area of their expertise, in addition to deliberating upon the advances made in Aesthetic and cosmetic dentistry.”

Dr. Malcom Stanislaus, President of the SLAACD on a statement issued noted that this event is held every year, “in order to learn as well as to share knowledge of multidisciplines of aesthetic dentistry. Aesthetic dentistry is an ever evolving, continuing area of dental science, which requires practitioners to be conversant in skill and to be pursuant in continuing dental education, research and development.”

Unilever oral care and SLAACD have maintained a strong partnership for the past nine years. Hence, as a corporate that promotes oral hygiene in Sri Lanka, Unilever hopes to build upon this partnership in the coming years and sponsor similar events, in order to enhance the oral care industry in Sri Lanka.

Manojee Dabare, Category Head Oral and Deo Unilever Sri Lanka, speaking on the sponsorship noted, “Closeup chose to sponsor this event, since both the brand and the aesthetic and cosmetic dentistry share a common interest of providing long lasting fresh breath and dazzling white teeth among Sri Lankans.”
