IIT recognizes FCHE students

-

Pioneer in British IT education since 1990 in Sri Lanka, Informatics Institute of Technology (IIT) recently held an award ceremony recognizing 50 students who had successfully completed the Foundation Certificate in Higher Education.

The Foundation Certificate in Higher Education (FCHE) is identified as an entry route to proceed to the degree of one’s choice and is directly relevant to the prestigious and globally accepted degrees from the University of Westminster, the Dean of IIT Assoc., Prof. Alfred Perera said.

“The mission of the institute has always been to harness talented individuals. This occasion is a celebration of the success and achievement of such students,” he said.

Associate Director and Head of Human Resources of Virtusa Sri Lanka, Sanjeewa Palihawadana presented the certificates for distinction and merit passes as the Chief Guest for the event. The star performers of the batch were Dinith Anthony Pathirana and Ahila Annakutty who took home the prestigious Gamini Wickramasinghe Prize for Outstanding Achievements.

Palihawadhana who is also a graduate and a prestigious alumni of IIT addressing the audience noted the importance of integrity and respect and pointed out that having such qualities were essential ingredients in gaining trust in the business place. The qualities are also the first characteristics a leader must possess. Encouraging students to think out of the box, he commented in the importance of having the ability to understand the big picture in all situations. He urged the students to be inquisitive to find new and innovative ways of carrying out projects.

The ceremony was also an emotional moment for the family members of the students as their loved ones went on stage to receive their certificates. Students at IIT come from diverse backgrounds and situations and have made a significant commitment to improve their lives through obtaining the degree – often juggling work, family and finances to realize their dreams.

While this reflects the flexibility offered by the institute, it was also a proud recognition and testimonial of IIT’s qualification that goes beyond not only a degree or a diploma, but as one that provides their students the necessary tools to prepare them to face the challenges and complexities that await them in their professional careers and provide opportunities for employment both locally and internationally through their connection with the University of Westminster.

With the sound backing of their international partner, the University of Westminster, IIT will continue to make a valuable contribution to manpower development and economic growth in the country.
