Police teams probing disappearance of doctor
Three police teams are probing the disappearance of a female doctor attached to the Matara General Hospital.
Dr. Mrs. Erandi Kulasinghe (32) had gone missing from Friday night (24) after she left the hospital and was on her way home at Hikkaduwa. IGP N.K.Ilangakoon has ordered the Colombo Crime Division to conduct investigations
Dr. Mrs. Kulasinghe’s husband Army Major Dr. Janitha Ruwan Dayananda (32) told Galle police that he received the last call from his wife when she was passing the Ahangama town and after that her mobile phone was dead. Police said they were now conducting investigations based on the incoming and outgoing calls on her mobile phone.

Dr. Mrs. Kulasinghe, from Kalutara had been an anaesthetist attached to the Matara General hospital for about two years.
Inquiries revealed that she had been staying in a rented house in the Uyanwatta area from where she travelled to hospital daily. Last Friday she had been on duty at the hospital from 2 pm to 5 pm and left for Hikkaduwa around 5.30 pm by car driven by her. However she had gone missing after 6.50 pm. A senior police official said investigators recovered several letters written by her, a laptop and medicine used by her for some ailment for a long time from her room that would be helpful in their investigations. He said the circumstances that led to the doctor’s disappearance were yet to be established. Matara SSP Deshabandu Tennakoon, SP Sisira Kumara, Actg. HQI Matara Krishantha Lokuge, OIC Women and Children Bureau Waruni Bogahawatta, OIC Crime Investigation Branch Nuwan Wijethunga and a team of officers of the Colombo Crime Investigation Division are conducting inquiries.
