ANTON JUDE
The 52nd birth anniversary of talented actor and singer Anton Jude falls on Wednesday November 28.
The exceptionally talented artiste passed away on March 20, 2012, plunging the entire film, stage and tele drama industry into shock.
He made his debut on stage and went on to play unforgettable characters in films like Bahubuthayo, Rankewita, Numba Nadan Apata Pissu, Sikuru Hathe, Rosa Kele, Mago Digo Dai, Ethumai Methumai and several other popular hits.
He acted in tele dramas like Punchi Rala, Sabanda Pabilis, Sakisanda Pabilis and others. His song ‘Aish Amma Gundu’ (Una Puruke Balu Walige) penned by the late Joe Abeywickrema was also a popular hit among the masses.
Anton Jude Gomes studied at St. Anthony’s Roman Catholic School, Mount Lavinia.
ANTON WICKREMASINGHE
The 19th death anniversary of the late film producer and former National Film Corporation Chairman Anton Wickremasinghe falls tomorrow, November 27.
He produced Dr. Lester James Peries’ Gamperaliya that won the coveted Golden Peacock award at the Indian International Film festival in the mid sixties. The film also bagged the award for the best movie at the Mexico Film festival. Mr Wickremasinghe was appointed Chairman of the National Film Corporation where he served for more than 10 years.
ASELA JAYAKODY
The first death anniversary of award-winning actor Asela Jayakody who acted in several tele dramas and films, falls tomorrow November 27.
He died early on November 27 last year following a tragic road accident in Welisara. Asela who was 40 when he passed away, played several memorable roles in tele dramas which also earned him awards. He started his film career with Vasantha Obeysekara’s ‘Salelu Warama’ and followed it up with Rosa Petikki, Sonduru Dadabima, Gamani, Sthuthiy Newatha Enna and others. He won an award for Gamani at this year’s SIGNIS awards ceremony, and it was received by his daughter Rishni Kaveesha and son Janith Binura Jayakody. Among the tele dramas in which he played vital roles were Synthetic Dreams, Romeo and Juliet Story, Fantasy Avenue, Sapari Wara, Sathkulu Pawwa, Gajamuthu, Ithin Eeta Passe, Holman Bottuwa and hundreds of others.
His passion for arts started from his schooldays at Karunaratne Buddhist School at Mattumagala.
