AWAIT - REVIVAL OF DON STANLEY’S!

- BY NIRO WAIDYARATNE

Don Stanley’s has now reopened at a well-suited location with easy parking and convenient access, situated in the corner of Haig Road and Marine Drive accessible from Galle road. When one enters it has the feel and charm of an old family house with each of the concepts below boasting of its own separate entrance.

Don Stanley’s a name familiar to all in Colombo, commenced operations in1991 at Alexandra Place, Colombo 7. This was the first venture of Athula Senanayake, the well known personality in the arena of food. Quality being his utmost priority, Athula went on further to start up Don’s Café and then ventured into outdoor catering as well. Having taken a sabbatical to launch a catering services project in Dubai, he has now returned to re-launch this popular restaurant concept.

As Colombo needs a wider choice of options when dining out,the return of Don Stanley’s will be welcomed by restaurant goers of the city. The bonus here is the offered differing ambiance, and food ideas so that when entertaining, your guests will be able to pick what they like best.

Don’s Deli which is already in operation, serves all the old favourites – Pies, Sandwiches, Salads, Desserts, crowned by their famous cheese cake. Mrs. Flogesteen’s Lamprais is also available daily and they operate from 8 am to 7 pm.

Don Stanley’s Restaurant the flag bearer of the group, when opened, will have the same cozy and homely feel, as was at the original restaurant at Alexandra Place. As before, the food will be continental prepared with individual care and attention and a selection that their numerous regulars can relate to. Menus will rotate regularly to give more variety and the portions, he assures me, will be fair sized. The restaurant has two private dining rooms that can be added on to enlarge the seating area if the necessity arises.

The Claude Room, is a private dining and meeting facility which accommodates up to 25 persons. This is the ideal place for ladies lunches, business meetings or private family gatherings. It is open for reservations from the 4th of December.

The Crusta Bar, will be an elevated pavilion offering the magnificent view of the ocean.

It will have an informal seafood bistro concept with the now popular Crab Company’s specialties supplementing a wide selection of seafood ideas. The former Don’s Café Mongolian barbecue will be a popular daily feature. Don Stanley’s Catering Services is their catering division dedicated to outdoor catering with 20 years of experience. Their professionally managed administrative and operational areas guarantee food and services in keeping with your expectation catering from 2 to 200 guests. They offer traditional and continental food for all types of occasions and have added the choice for the host to order it with full service or to taking on the new offer for the limited service - which gives you a 30% savings on the full-service prices. This service is in operation as of now and bookings for the festive season are accepted.

When you chose Don Stanley’s, you can expect a variety of high quality food, trained and experience service staff, all necessary equipment, efficient administrative support and inclusive rates with no hidden extras. With established brand names, the Don Stanley’s concepts will be assured of patronage and the efforts of Athula and his dedicated team to keep up standards and consistency will be well received.
