Text books to be supplied to flood affected students
Schools which are affected by the floods would have to make formal request to the EPD concerning their requirements through the provincial education offices
Measures would be taken to supply school text books and other necessary publications to flood affected schools within a week, the Education Publications Department said yesterday.
EPD Commissioner General Tissa Hewawitharana speaking to Daily Mirror said they have already received several requests for text books from flood affected schools from various parts of the country. “Although the text book distribution process for 2013 has been completed, several schools have notified us their book storages have been inundated. Also, we have learnt that a lot of children from the flood affected districts have either lost their books or the text books have been destroyed. So we have decided to arrange the distribution of new batches of text books immediately,” he added.
Mr. Hewawitharana said in order to benefit from the service; the relevant schools which are affected by the floods would have to make formal request to the EPD concerning their requirements through the provincial education offices.
“We have also taken measures to instruct the zonal and provincial education officials to provide us with details of every school that requires new text books,” he added.
