ESTATE WORKERS BUN KWORK FEARING WORLD END

A conspiracy to sabotage the estate works was being carried out and a loss of a million rupees had already has been suffered by estates so far

Estate employees in Matale had not turned up for work from December 17 as they have been misled and scared by some unions and organisati­ons with the stories of the end of the world asking them not to attend work till December 25.

The Central Provincial Road Developmen­t, Power and Energy Minister, Bandula Yalegama revealed this at the progress review meeting. A conspiracy to sabotage the estate works was being carried out and a loss of a million rupees had already been recorded by estates so far, said the minister. Under the chairmansh­ip of Parliament­arian Lakshman Vasantha Perera, the coordinati­ng committee meeting of the Matale District Developmen­t was held at the Matale District Sec- retariat Office.The provincial minister also stressed the need for action to be taken to remedy the disastrous situation in the Rattota area and also to curb the misleading campaigns of some organisati­ons.

The chairman of the Rattota PS T.D.Jayatissa and Matale SSP Sanjeewa Medawatta and Central Province Commander, Brigadier Wijeratna, also spoke stressing the remedial actions to the prevailing situation. Transport deputy minister Rohana Disanayaka, District Secretary Helen A Meegasmull­a Matale Disaster Management centre assistant director Chaminida Amaraweera and a geologist from the department also participat­ed.
