SACHIN EMERGES CHAMP FORTHE SECOND TIME
Sixteen-year-old Sachin de Silva emerged as the Sri Lanka Junior National Golf Champion for the second time with a 11-stroke lead win at the end of the final day’s play conducted by Sri Lanka Golf Union and sponsored by Prima for the fifth successive year which was held at the Royal Colombo Golf Course yesterday.
Sachin in fact was in a class of his own as he showed that he has the potential of being a champion golfer. Sachin ended the final day with a gross score of 82 following his 78 and 73 on the first two days to end on 233.
There was a stiff battle for the second slot between Zaffar Sikkander and Chalitha Pushpika but the latter came out on top with a lead of five shots. Chalitha aggregated 80 on the final day having earlier made
Sachin apart from winning the junior golf title went on to win his age group category of 15-17 years
scores of 84 and 80 to end on 244 while Sikkander finished with an aggregate of 249.
Sachin apart from winning the junior golf title went on to win his age group category of 15-17 years followed by Chalitha, R. Illeirajah and Shamana Jagoda who finished in third, fourth and fifth place respectively.
Meanwhile in the Silver Division (11-14 years) Prashan Peiris a student of St Thomas Prep too had a brilliant outing in the three-day contest to win the title with a aggregate of 225. Prashan had a successful final day where he had a gross 72 which was his best following his 76 and 77 in the first two days. Ishara Fernando was way behind in second place with a score of 248 followed by G, Dhanarajan from Kandy and Armand Flamer in third and fourth place.
The chief guest at the closing ceremony was Shun Tian Shing, General Manager of Ceylon Agro Industries who along with Ana Punchihewa, President of the Sri Lanka Golf Union gave away the awards.
