Slimline FC emerge inaugural Fencing champions
Slimline Fencing Club Pannala emerged champions at the inaugural National Fencing Championships which concluded at the Unichela Fencing Club premises in Panadura yesterday.
Slimline FC secured seven medals comprising of three gold, three silver and one bronze medal while host Unichela Fencing Club Panadura came second. Apart from winning the championship they also had the honour of producing the best fencer of the nationals in Pradeep Dunukiyanga who won the Foil individual event.
The two-day Sri Lanka Fencing Nationals conducted by the National Association of Fencing and organised by the Unichela Fencing Club saw over 80 participants from both the men’s and women’s categories representing seven clubs battling for supremacy. The seven clubs in the fray were MDS Fencing Club, UFC, Slimline FC, Silueta FC, Southern FC, Thurulie FC and Slimtex FC.
The chief guest at the awards ceremony was Sarath Ekanayake Chief Minister Central Province who along with Dian Gomes, Group Director MAS Holdings, Maxwell de Silva, Secretary NOC, Nathan Sivagananthan Vice President of National Fencing Association and Dr. Nimal Korala, Vice President Basketball Association of Sri Lanka gave away the awards.

Foil - Kanchana Sabdalanka (Slimline FC) beat Ashoka Udayanga (Siluetta FC)
Epee – Niranjala Weeraratne (Slimline FC) beat Piyumi Krishanthi (Siluetta FC)
Sabre – Kanchana Madubashini (Unichela FC) beat Nadeesha Karunaratne (Thurulie FC)
