- BY M. SHAMIL AMIT

The right and left arm pace combination of Avishka Fernando and Anuk Fernando helped St Sebastian’s record a comprehensive nine-wicket win over St Peter’s in the Under 19 inter-school cricket encounter concluded at Bambalapitiya yesterday.

It was Avishka who laid the foundation for the Sebs’ victory on the opening day with a five-wicket (5/13) haul in the Petes’ first innings enabling them to bundle out the home team for a low score of 73.

Avishka followed with a four wicket haul (4/40) in the Peterites second innings and he along with Anuk who also grabbed four wickets (4/35) wrecked the Petes’ batting to bowl out them for another low score of 103.

St Sebastian’s in their first innings too underwent the same fate when they were restricted to a score of 109. But in their run chase of 68 runs set by St Peter’s they approached in a positive manner with the openers Avishka Fernando and Luke Jayadeva, who remained unbeaten on 44, giving them a sound start of 43 runs to reach the target in the 16th over.

St Sebastian’s are gaining an outright win over St Peter’s after a long period and it was their second outright win of the season.
