WEST INDIES WOMEN CRUSH SRI LANKA

The Sri Lanka Women who put in a giant killing performanc­e in their first match of the ICC Women’s World Cup against England were no match for the West Indies Women who crushed them a massive 209 runs in the match played in Mumbai yesterday.

A quick-fire 137 ball-knock of 171 by opener Stafanie Taylor almost sealed the win for the Windies women which saw them end their 50 overs making a massive score of 368 for 8.

Sri Lanka Women in pursuit of the massive target were no where near as they were struggling with five of their top order batting back in the pavilion with just 81 on the board.

They were unable to make any headway with some brief partnershi­ps in the latter part of the innings succeeded in only delaying an imminent win for the West Indies Women. Ultimately the Sri Lankan lasses were able to muster only 159.

Australia Women secured their second successive win when they defeated South Africa by three wickets in the match played at Cuttack. South Africa Women batting first made 188 while the Australian­s reached the target with 26 balls to spare.

New Zealand women too recorded their second win with a convincing seven-wicket win over Pakistan Women. Pakistan Women taking first lease of the wicket were restricted to a score of 104 and New Zealand in their chase reached the target in the 30th over.

Meanwhile defending champions England after their shock defeat against Sri Lanka bounced back to record a 32run win over hosts India. The highlight of the match were the two tons first by England skipper Charlotte Edwards and then an unbeaten 107 by Karu Jain which was in vain.
