ARMY GRANTS PERMISSION TO STAGE PROTEST IN HIGH-SECURITY ZONE
First time after several decades
The Jaffna Army HQ has granted permission to stage a protest march against the Indian fishermen through the Jaffna high-security zone, on behalf of the waraffected people.
The protest march which was in progress since December 27 last year from Nachchikudah, reached Jaffna town yesterday. The protesters claimed that the trespassing and usage of trawlers by Indian fishermen was destroying the fishing resources in the Northern seas.
The protest that reached Keerimalai on Thursday, was rerouted for security reasons through Maviddapuram and the organisers had sought permission from t he Jaffna Security Headquarters to stage the protest march through K.K.K. Myliddy and Palaly which is an area under the High Security Zone.

after permission was granted. This is the first time after several decades, that the security forces have granted permission for an agitation within the high security zone.
