Janaka Perera assassination suspects further remanded
Two suspects now in remand under indictment in connection with the assassination of Major General Janaka Perera and 28 others in Anuradhapura in an attack made by a suicide bomber were further remanded till March 22 by the North Central Provincial High court Judge Sunanda Kumara Rathnayaka and fixed the same date for hearing.
The suspects further remanded are Umar Habthab and Sunmuganadan Sudaharan.
The CID had earlier stated in court that cash amounting to Rs. 3.4 million was found in the possession of the suspects which was believed to have been given to them by the LTTE as part of a contract fee for the murder.
The CID also produced to the court a Swiss watch worth Rs. 2 million

and a cyanide capsule given to suspect Sudaharan by LTTE Leader Velu Pillai Prabhakaran in appreciation of the murder attack.
CID informed the court about this transaction on a previous day of the hearing,
!59 including the then Chief Magistrate of Anuradhapura Darshika Wimalasiri who is the present Avissawella Additional District Judge, SSP of CID Rohana Sudath Rathnayaka Nagahamulla and IP Pushpitha had been cited as witnesses of this case.
