40-acre land handed over to army
A 40 acre land in Thenmaratchy, Ketpeli in Jaffna which was previously owned by the Land Reforms Commission has been handed over to the Army Commission's Jaffna Coordinator, N. Wimalaraj said.
At a time when Tamil politicians were agitating against the acquisition of lands in the Northern Province, the army had requested for 65 acres of land from the Commission, but the Commission had ordered the handing over of only 40 acres to the army.
In the stated property 25 acres are already occupied by the public. With a view not to cause any inconvenience to them, only the balance 40 acres have been handed over to the army.
