Teachers concerned over new transfer plan
Teacher unions yesterday expressed their concern over a new teacher transfer process that was currently being drafted and finalised by the Education Ministry without any consultation of the teachers, while vowing to take strong trade union action if their feedback was not considered prior to the implementation of the new policy.
According to concerned teachers unions, a meeting had been held at the Education Ministry yesterday with the participation of Zonal Education Directors to discuss the implementation of the new teacher transfer process. But so far, none of the teacher unions has been made aware of the contents of the new plan.
Ceylon Teachers Union (CTU) General Secretary Joseph Stalin speaking to the Daily Mirror said, “Earlier last month, the Ministry transferred some 12,400 teachers as part of a plan to even out the human resources disparity among schools countrywide.
