Let’s protect our hard-won peace

There are reports pointing to the fact that Muslims have a higher birth rate. The Sinhalese are 75 per cent of the population and if the Muslims have a higher birth rate it is because of illiteracy, lack of education and backwardness; there is a higher percentage of uneducated Muslims than Sinhalese. Muslims in urban educated areas have just 2 or 3 children on an average, like their Sinhala counterparts.

There are non-Muslim and Buddhist countries such as Singapore, Thailand and the Philippines who use the Halal certification for their economic benefit. The Halal body in Sri Lanka -The Jamiyathul Ulema - have offered to stop issuing Halal certificates, but the govt. has asked them to continue. Extremist religious groups such as the Wahhabis are used by vested internal and external powers to destabilise and ruin countries as they have done in Mali, Pakistan, Afghanistan, Iraq, Libya and Syria. All Sri Lankans have suffered enough for 30 years with a savage racist war. They need to protect the hard. won peace and rebuild Sri Lanka as one nation.
