Heroin addicted repairmen arrested
The four suspects were contractors attending to repairs and maintenance of transmission towers of telephone companies
Telephone wires, batteries and other equipment stolen from telecommunication towers in Kadugannawa, Kalutara Matugama and Thalangama areas, were recovered from a scrap iron monger’s shop in Puttalam and four men suspected of the thefts arrested at Talangama by a police team from Dehiwala.
The four suspects were from Koswatta and Wanathamulla areas and were between the ages of 20 and 30. Inquiries revealed that they were contractors attending to repairs and maintenance of transmission towers of telephone companies. Police said that the suspects were drug addicts who resorted to theft of telecommunication equipment to earn money to feed their heroin habit.
A police party under Actg. OIC Dehiwala police IP Dushantha Liyanage and SI Duminda carried out the raid on the instructions of SP Ravindra Karavita.
