Heroin addicted repairmen arrested

The four suspects were contractor­s attending to repairs and maintenanc­e of transmissi­on towers of telephone companies

Telephone wires, batteries and other equipment stolen from telecommun­ication towers in Kadugannaw­a, Kalutara Matugama and Thalangama areas, were recovered from a scrap iron monger’s shop in Puttalam and four men suspected of the thefts arrested at Talangama by a police team from Dehiwala.

The four suspects were from Koswatta and Wanathamul­la areas and were between the ages of 20 and 30. Inquiries revealed that they were contractor­s attending to repairs and maintenanc­e of transmissi­on towers of telephone companies. Police said that the suspects were drug addicts who resorted to theft of telecommun­ication equipment to earn money to feed their heroin habit.

A police party under Actg. OIC Dehiwala police IP Dushantha Liyanage and SI Duminda carried out the raid on the instructio­ns of SP Ravindra Karavita.
