Isn’t there an answer to this mode of murder?

- BY AMADORU AMARAJEEWA

The carcass of a wild elephant was recovered yesterday from the jungle near Wendrasen tank in Kantale by wildlife conservation of- ficers. Investigations revealed that it had died of injuries caused to the mouth and throat by a hakka patas illegal explosive device used by poachers.

Judging by the emaciated body of the elephant, Wildlife Range Asst. J.A.P.Wijekumara said that the jumbo had been starving for several days due to the injuries to its mouth. He said three elephants in the Kantale wildlife range died of injuries caused by hakka patas explosions in January this year. He said that the veterinary surgeon of the wildlife zone was scheduled to perform the postmortem examination yesterday afternoon.
