Safety in water for Lunugamvehera fishermen

The Lunugamvehera police have provided a training programme to fresh water fishermen in the Lunugamvehera reservoir on the subject of safety in the water. The project costing Rs.10 million is funded by the Southern Province Fisheries Ministry on the request of Minister D.V.Upul.

As an initiative 150 fishermen were provided practical training and life saving jackets and other equipment. The programme was launched under the guidance of OIC Lunugamvehera police Indika Gamage. The Police Lifeguard Unit in Tangalla instructed the fishermen and provided them practical training.
