Bassa resigns as national selector
Former Trinity rugby "Lion" and Kandy SC captain and one of the present national selectors Pradeep Basnayake has tendered his resignation from his position in order to pursue his coaching career at his alma-mater.
Basnayake played for Trinity 1st XV in 1994 and 1995, winning the rugby "Lion" in his final year. He represented Sri Lanka at Under 19 rugby and later represented the champion Kandy Sports Club outfit for eight long years. He led Kandy SC to win all three trophies in 2002. The Up Country club won the Sevens, League and Knock Out trophies that season. Basanayake also represented Sri Lanka for 7 years leading the country in 2003-2004.
He was in the coaching staff of the Trinity College rugby team from 2008-2009. Basnayake completed two years as a national selector.
