Skipper Mithali guides India Women

-

India Women skipper Mithali Raj hit an unbeaten 103 inclusive of 13 boundaries and a six to guide the side to a comfortable six wicket win over the Pakistan Women in the seventh place play off match of the ICC Women’s World Cup tournament played at Cuttack yesterday.

Mithali along with Reema Malhotra put on an unbroken 87 run stand for the fifth wicket which helped India Women casing 193 runs for victory to reach the target in the 46th over.

India in their run chase made steady progress after losing their first wicket in the third over with the score on eight. But two useful partnerships for the second and third wickets enabled them to get closer to the winning target.

The morning session of play saw Pakistan skipper Sana Mir winning the toss and electing to take first lease of the wicket undergoing some anxious moments.

They lost their first four wickets with just 60 runs on the board in the 22nd over before a valuable 80 run stand for the fifth wicket between Nain Abidi who made 58 and Nida Dar who made an unbeaten 68 helped them make a modest score of 192 which incidentally was their highest score of the tournament.

With this defeat the Pakistan Women side ended their World Cup assignment without a single win.

Pakistan Women 192 for 7 in 50 overs (Nain Abidi 58, Qanita Jalil 18, Bismah Maroof 15, Nida Dar 68 n.o.: Nagarajan Niranjana 3 for 35, Jhulan Goswami 2 for 17)
