KEHELIYA DISOWNSWIMAL’S STATEMENT ON USSEE

Cabinet Spokesman Keheliya Rambukwella said yesterday that the statement purported to have been made by Minister Wimal Weerawansa to the effect that the American Embassy in Sri Lanka was providing funds to NGOs in order to destabilise the country had created a situation prompting a broad discussion within the UPFA.

Speaking at the meeting held to inform the media of Cabinet decisions, Mr.Rambukwella said that Mr. Weerawansa was expressing his own view and not that of the government. The minister made this remark in reply to a journalist’s question as to whether Mr. Weerawansa had expressed the government’s view.
