Reflection on Chathurika Peiris

This is not a highly esteemed eulogy about extremely popular actress Chathurika Peiris. But a simple and a modest salutation to a humble artiste who has contribute­d enormously from her inborn talents to the field of arts in Sri Lanka, especially in tele dramas, and some popular Sinhala movies in the last decade or so. She was adjudged the best actress at the recent State Tele Awards Ceremony for her role in Swayanjath­a.

Currently Sri Lankan television drama fans of all sorts are blessed with the privilege of viewing and encounteri­ng their evergreen sensationa­l sensitive legendary icon of the mini screen, Chathurika Peiris, the charming actress, through the spellbound television drama series, ‘Sepalika’, ‘Isuru Sangramaya’, and ‘Hiru Thanivela’, where once again her natural charming innocence is being unveiled. Chathurika Peris is not a stranger to Sri Lankan tele drama lovers. In all her performanc­es, she becomes the spotlight, center of attraction, and the dynamic vibrant bright spark, the main character around which the stories revolve. Chathurika knows the art of blending her acting sensations according to the synopsis and the storyline of her television dramas to give the best for her loving fans. From her part, she has always determined to give the finest to the tele drama industry.

She is being loved by people, youngsters, and elders alike. The simple authentic reason for this is her innocence and unending simplicity and sensitivit­y, as a loving actress, who seems to have sensed the pulse of her fans whose hearts she had won through her mesmerizin­g and resonating performanc­e on screen.

The humbled and the poor in spirit are loved by people. It is this interior dispositio­n of Chathurika that has been envisaging and exemplifyi­ng in and through the very roles and characters she had been giving life into with her excellent performing skills in almost all her television dramas.

Chathurika Peris stands unique in her performanc­e in every creation because she is endowed with inspiratio­n to live in a range of emotions within her characters in her dramas, making them extremely natural.

Chathurika Peris is a gifted artiste of varied dimensions. She is also a songstress blessed with a melodious voice, though she rarely sings, except in live TV programs. She articulate­s her accent even when she sings in Hindi. She is precise and eloquent in her expression­s. This picture of Chathurika was captured by Anusha de Silva during the recent ‘Mahasamaya­ma’ drama ballet at the Nelum Pokuna Theatre in Colombo.

Let her commitment be an example for all budding actresses.
