Dancing is an art form that has evolved alongside humanity, from the most primitive of days to the sophistications of modern society. Dance Fest 2013 can be seen as one of the largest inter- school dance competitions in Sri Lanka that facilitates this ancient art form along with celebrating the modern trends that have come along with its evolution. The competition itself will be held from the 19th to the 21st of February at the Bishops College Auditorium. This year’s competition would boast the participation of 20 schools, almost double compared to last year’s turnout.

According to the organizers, the reason behind such a boost in participation is not only the growing prestige of the competition itself, but also the realization of the gravity and importance of dance as an art form.

Dance Fest is a perfect example of this fact. This year’s competition will see schools from far away as Kandy and Chilaw, performing alongside students in Colombo under the same roof.

The participating schools are already revving up to the competition, with late night practices and a lot of hard work, despite academic and other responsibilities. So come on down to the Bishops College auditorium next week to see some quality dance performances and watch 20 schools battle it out to win the prestigious awards. The award ceremony will be held on the 22nd after the top 3 schools from each category perform. The competition promises to be a pure celebration of dance and it’s power to bring all of us together.
