Sunesh Rodrigo : 25 Things You Don't Know About Me

-

Today I have a multitasking youngster, and nothing but a true “Metro sexual,” Sunesh is a true diva with flair.. a flair to make things better. When Sunesh Rodrigo is not busy as Head of News at TNL

Radio Network, he is also a man who lives his life to the fullest- it maybe his reckless driving at times, to his challenging spins on his motorbike, or it could be his high maintained run down Independence, his day is power packed….

Today the boy who checks himself out a hundred times a day, gave me 25 things…

hope you will enjoy !

1. My family comes before everything and everyone.

2. I absolutely HATE vegetables.

3. Rugby is my favourite sport, cricket is the one I grew up playing but badminton is my new found love. Gets blasted from my parents for playing badminton till the wee hours of the morning.

4. No matter how late I party, somehow wake up to go for mass early morning on Sunday because even if God pardons me for missing mass, my family won’t.

5. I don’t drink or smoke, but often people walk up to me and goes ‘what are you high on, must be something really good.’

6. Strongly believe in staying fit. Thoroughly enjoy a 30 minute evening jog. Am guilty of cutting down on food throughout last year. Cycling and badminton are my new found passions. A man should look good in a slim fit shirt, right?

7. I spend time thinking about how I could change my hairstyle or what I should do with my beard next month (am growing it this entire month) :P

8. Spend too much on clothes and perfumes and don’t hesitate to sport a colourful wardrobe.

9. Love to get into debates. Will argue till the cows come home to prove my point.

10. Often am accused of talking too much. But on the hindsight am praised for my ability to chat up with absolute strangers.

11. Gets too philosophical, too often. Friends complain of me being too logical and/or too blunt.

12. Loves journalism because it gives the license to ask questions, be observant and represent the society. I never hesitate to ask the taboo questions, even from the highest authorities and that has got me in trouble.

13. Thoroughly enjoy lecturing and conducting corporate workshops as I believe dissemination of information and knowledge is vital to the development of society.

14. Hates bad spelling, grammar and pronunciation. I am not comfortable in handing over my scripts, speeches or articles for correction to many people, except Kavitha.

15. Am a biker and have gone through the entire range from a 50cc ‘maduruwa’ to a 250cc Honda. Would not hesitate to pick a bike over a car any day. Had a crash a couple of years ago and sold it to stop having my mom yell in my ear every morning.

16. My friends always fasten their safety belts even before I remind them as I drive really really slow :P Want confirmation? Ask any of my close friends. :D

17. Very grateful to my school, St. Benedict’s College for nurturing me during my youth and for instilling good values. Proud to say that I am a fourth generation Benedictine.

18. Absolutely love to travel. Every year I try to travel to two new countries. The best so far has been Chicago and Copenhagen.

19. My greatest professional achievements are becoming the youngest head of news in the island back in 2010 and entering the Edward Murrow Programme offered by the US Department of State and covering the 2012 US Presidential Election through the fellowship.

20. As much as I can’t get through a meal that has vegetables or greens, I hate people who aren’t punctual. Talking of the hate list, I despise those who spit in public places

21. There are plenty of things I want to do when I retire. One of the noteworthy things is to coach a school cricket team, ideally my Alma mater.

22. I can’t sit through scifi movies. I don’t watch cartoons or animated movies either. ‘Based on a true story’ genre is my cup of tea. 23. I want to challenge myself to be able to teach a nursery class. Yes, I am not great with kids. Which is why I lecture at the tertiary level.

24. Aamir Khan is my Bollywood hero and Tom Hanks tops my favourite actors list in Hollywood. I respect them for being able to pull of different characters and for constantly pushing their limits to reach greater heights.

25. I still have my toy cupboard. It’s filled with my Lego sets which I grew up with. The battery operated car which I got as my first birthday gift, still works. :D
