SRI LANKAN STUDENT AT UN
A science faculty student of the Colombo University Jayathma Dhananji Wickremenayake has brought repute to Sri Lanka by representing the country at the 51st conference of the social development commission of the UN held on February 12, 2013 and presenting the report of the UN Secretary General on the implementation of the World Programme of Action for Youth. It was of significance that Jayathma was entrusted with the responsibility of addressing the representatives from 194 countries and placing before them the report on world programme action on youth.
Jayathma Dhananji Wickremenayka ,(22) who was born and bread in Haburugala, a remote village off Bentota had her primary education at Aluthgama Sanghamitta Girls National School. Jayathama who scored a triumph at the Grade five scholarship examinations was selected to the Colombo Visaka Vidyalaya. After passing her GCE Advanced Level in the science stream she entered the Colombo University. She is the eldest daughter of Piyal Wickremanayake, a senior official of the Port Authority and Nepa Kannangara, a Home Science Instructor of the Education Department.
She had earlier addressed the UN conference on October 08, 2012 representing the Sri Lankan youth and led the Sri Lankan delegation to Rio-20 conference held in June 2012 in Brazil.
