A science faculty student of the Colombo University Jayathma Dhananji Wickremena­yake has brought repute to Sri Lanka by representi­ng the country at the 51st conference of the social developmen­t commission of the UN held on February 12, 2013 and presenting the report of the UN Secretary General on the implementa­tion of the World Programme of Action for Youth. It was of significan­ce that Jayathma was entrusted with the responsibi­lity of addressing the representa­tives from 194 countries and placing before them the report on world programme action on youth.

Jayathma Dhananji Wickremena­yka ,(22) who was born and bread in Haburugala, a remote village off Bentota had her primary education at Aluthgama Sanghamitt­a Girls National School. Jayathama who scored a triumph at the Grade five scholarshi­p examinatio­ns was selected to the Colombo Visaka Vidyalaya. After passing her GCE Advanced Level in the science stream she entered the Colombo University. She is the eldest daughter of Piyal Wickremana­yake, a senior official of the Port Authority and Nepa Kannangara, a Home Science Instructor of the Education Department.

She had earlier addressed the UN conference on October 08, 2012 representi­ng the Sri Lankan youth and led the Sri Lankan delegation to Rio-20 conference held in June 2012 in Brazil.
