Roshen’s family still waiting for justice
Family members of Roshen Chanaka, the free trade zone employee who was killed in a 2011 police shooting, expressed concern yesterday over the failure of the government to reveal the findings of the Mahanama Tilkaratne Commission which investi- gated the incident.
Roshen Chanaka was injured on May 30 when police shot at workers in the Free Trade Zone who were demonstrating against the private sector pension bill.
He succumbed to his injuries the following day.
Janatha Vimukthi Peramuna (JVP) MP Sunil Handunnetti raised the issue during question tome in Parliament on March 7. Chief Government Whip Dinesh Gunawardane, who replied, said that the Mahanama Tilakaratne commission had submitted its report to President Mahinda Rajapaksa. However, Mr. Gunawardena declined to reveal the findings in Parliament.

Mr. Handunnetti observed that the then IGP Mahinda Balasuriya had been given a diplomatic posting by the government despite his being held responsible for the circumstances that led to the incident.
"The government sent him to Brazil as Ambassador," he said.
Meanwhile, R.P.A.B.T. Madusan, the victim's brother, said that he was concerned over the delay in meteing out justice to him.
"We had a meeting with the government on June 10, 2011. We were assured that justice would be done. But nothing has been done," he said.
