FIVE PUGILISTS FOR ASBC ASIAN YOUTH BOXING
Five pugilists selected by the boxing selection committee of the ABA left the island on March 9 (Saturday) to contest in the ASBC Asian Confederation Youth Boxing Championship 2013 scheduled to be held in Subic Bay, Philippines from March 10 to 17.
The boxers were selected after the completion of the ABA Youth Boxing Championship which was held at the Ministry of Sports Gymnasium from February 8 to 11.
The selection committee emphasised specially that they took into consideration the boxers who could be groomed for the future and could win medals at future international boxing meets.
The ASBC Asian Confederation Youth Boxing Championship will see the participation of over 150 pugilists from 25 countries including Kazakhstan, Japan, China, Vietnam, Pakistan, Mongolia and Sri Lanka.
The five Sri Lankan boxers who will participate and the weight categories are Roshan Sandaruwan of Slimline BC (49kg), Asela Madusanka of MDS BC (52kg), Ruchira Gunasena of Seevali MMV Ratnapura (56kg), Roshan Hettiarachchi of Sri Sumangala Panadura (60kg) and Asela Thuduwewaththa of Dharmaraja Kandy (64kg)
The two coaches are Roshan Dangalla and Indika Senanayake while Lakshman Tilekeratne will be the manager of the team and Tissa Chandradasa is due to officiate as a referee.
