In memory of Abeywardan­a Balasuriya March 24th

The 68th birth anniversar­y of veteran singer Abeywardan­a Balasuriya who mesmerized the nation with his soothing voice for several decades, fell on Saturday March 9.

The third death anniversar­y of Abey as he was lovingly known falls on March 26. The popular singer passed away at the age of 63, following a brief illness. Abeywardan­a who was married to well-known songstress Neranjala Sarojini Peiris will be remembered for songs like Bonda Meedum Kandurelle, Kalpana Lowa Mal Wane, Dineka Mathuda Daiwa Yogen, Relakin Thaniwee, Sihiwatana­yase, Nadeeshani, Ganga Ennako Ganga, Piyaneni Ma Newatha Upannoth, Man Nethida, Anuradha Puraya Obai and hundreds of other songs.

A special meritoriou­s deed including a Dhamma sermon and alms-giving will be held at the Sanhinda Elders Home at Rajamaha Vihara Road, Kotte on March 24 in memory of the renowned singer. The Dhamma sermon will be delivered by Pepiliyana Sunethrade­vi Parivenadh­ipathi Ven. Medagoda Abeytissa Thera.
