President sends greetings to newly elected heads
President Mahinda Rajapaksa yesterday extended his congratulations to the newly appointed President of the People’s Republic of China, Xi Jinping, after he was formally appointed to the highest office of the country.
Conveying his felicitations, on behalf of the government and the people of Sri Lanka, President Rajapaksa said that he believed Jinping’s vast and impressive record in regional and national politics would assist him in guiding China’s economy in the direction of rapid progress.
“The confidence placed in your leadership and your ability to steer your great country in the path of continued economic development and social progress is manifested in your appointment to the highest office,” President Rajapaksa said.He further said that he hoped that during the tenure of the new Chinese President excellent bilateral relations between China and Sri Lanka would further strengthen and reach new heights.
Meanwhile President Mahinda Rajapaksa had also sent a congratulatory message to Uhuru Kenyatta on his election as President of the Republic of Kenya. “Mr. Kenyatta’s rise to the Presidency is a testimony of the confidence that the people of Kenya have placed in him to usher in a brighter future for his country, the President said in his message. “The relationship between our two countries is warm and cordial. I am confident that these links will be further consolidated during your tenure of office,.” President Rajapaksa further said.
