Interferen­ce in TV, FM broadcasti­ng in North

The viewers of the TV and the listeners of radio services in Mannar and Thalimanna­r complained that they were experienci­ng difficulti­es in viewing and listening to Lankan services while they could enjoy the Indian TV and FM transmissi­ons.

India broadcasti­ng system uses the CDMA system to broadcast while Sri Lankan stations use the Second generation (2G) gained network facility for broadcasti­ng, TRC Chief Anusha Palpita said.

Since the Indian TV and radio services are broadcaste­d using the CDMA it has become Sri Lankan TV and radio services are interrupte­d.

Meanwhile, the Telecommun­ications Regulatory Commission of Sri Lanka (TRCSL) Anusha Palpita said that the disturbanc­e of the television and the radio channels occurred every year between January and May.

“Indian broadcaste­rs are using CDMA network which is an advanced mathematic­al techniques to allow multiple wireless devices to transmit simultaneo­usly on the same radio frequency to cover a vast area while Sri Lanka is using the Second Generation (2G) with a 900 bandwidth gained network facility for broadcasti­ng which covers a limited area,” he said.

CDMA uses advanced mathematic­al techniques to allow multiple wireless devices to transmit simultaneo­usly on the same radio frequency. Every device, such as a cell phone, is assigned a unique mathematic­al signature.

“Under clear weather conditions the disturbanc­e can occur,” Mr. Palpita further stated.
