China’s role in the development of Sri Lanka
China’s Ambassador in Sri Lanka Mr. Wu Jiangho at a meeting with the Sri Lankan Prime Minister at ‘Visumpaya’ on Thursday said, China always supports Sri Lanka’s endeavours to boost the economy and to enhance the standard of living of the Sri Lankans.
He said China has achieved a rapid economic development and as a result, remains a powerful nation in the world.
China as a developing country, adopted a sustainable economic policy uninfluenced by the Western communities, in order to see the dawn of the development.
State and private companies of China have arrived in Sri Lanka to make investments in our country and have taken steps to enhance tourism, highways, electricity and the environmental situation of the country.
The relationship between China and Sri Lanka has turned a new page in the history of the two countries. While Sri Lankans are dedicated to improve their lives through Buddhist culture the Chinese too appreciate the influence of Buddhism, the Ambassador said.
Sri Lankan authorities have taken measures to attract Chinese tourists to Sri Lanka. Sri Lanka acts cooperatively with China in different fields such as culture, military and economics.
Mr. Wu Jiangho pledged China’s support to mitigate international pressures against Sri Lanka, exerted by Western countries.
The Prime Minister said, friendship between China and Sri Lanka was strengthened with the arrival of the Chinese Bud- dhist monk Venerable Fa-Hien in Sri Lanka. Also the direct diplomatic relationships between the two countries during the regime of SWRD Bandaranaike were beneficial to both countries.
He said there were many investment programmes launched In Sri Lanka under the leadership of Mao Tse Tung during the regime of Madam Sirimavo Bandaranaike. The government of China has also provided enormous assistance to Sri Lanka in the field of education with opportunities for Sri Lankan students to pursue their studies in China.
