St. Sebastian’s stun Dehiwala Central Spinner Rajitha shines on day two

St Sebastian’s Katuneriya playing in the Division Two of the under 19 cricket tournament recorded a stunning nine-wicket win over fancied Dehiwala Central who are playing in the top division in their Under 19 inter-school cricket encounter concluded at Katuneriya yesterday.

The architects of the Sebs win were Pasindu Lakshan who made a ton and Rusith Gayan who chipped in with 82 helping them make a massive score of 327 in reply to their opponents 245. Later Roshen Chrishmant­ha’s six-wicket haul enabled the Sebs to restrict Dehiwala Central batting t he second time to a score of 179. This left St Sebastian’s Katuneriya a run chase of 98 runs which they needed just 11 overs to chase.

Thurstan right arm spinner Rajitha Perera shone on day two with impressive figures of 7 for 35 in their drawn Under 19 inter-school cricket encounter concluded at Thurstan ground in Reid Avenue yesterday.

Dharmapala in reply to Thurstan’s score of 230 for 8 resuming on their overnight score of 46 for no loss succumbed to Rajitha and were able to muster only a score of 130. Dharmapala made to follow on with a deficit of 100 runs ended the day on 109 for 7.

Only 40 overs were possible on day one in the match between St Benedict’s and De Mazenod Kandana played at Kotahena. The match began only at 3.00 p.m. with the Mazenodian­s batting first making 74 for 4. The match will be continued today.
